Maine Area Service Committee of Narcotics Anonymous:
The primary purpose of an NA group is to carry the message to the
addict who still suffers by providing a setting for identification and
recovery where an addict can come for help if he or she has a desire
to stop using. The purpose of an Area Service Committee is to be supportive to the NA
Group and its primary purpose by associating the Group with other
groups locally and by helping the Group deal with its day-to-day
problems and needs.
MASCNA Statement Of Purpose:
To unify the groups within the area, help the groups carry the message
to the addict who still suffers, and build a sense of community among
recovering addicts in the Maine Area. We are a pooling place
where all opinions are welcome so a loving higher power may prevail to
meet the needs of the participating groups. This committee is
directly responsible to the participating groups, as voiced through a
GSR. The final responsibility and authority for NA services
rests with the NA groups.
MASCNA Structure:
The MASCNA consists of an executive committee and a number of
committees formed to perform specific duties. Both the executive committee
and the various commitees are acountable to the groups. The groups are represented by
Group Service Representatives (GSRs) who select leaders, delegate responsibility, and
develop policy for the MASCNA.

| Literature |
| The foundation for our program of recovery is the Twelve Steps
as described in our literature. The literature committee was created to make NA approved literature available locally
to the groups and to provide a forum for review and input for development of our literature. Literature is available
for sale to the groups at area service meetings. In order to purchase literature at area service you must complete an
order form. Order forms can be downloaded from this website and are provided at the area service meeting. |

| Hospitals & Institutions |
| The purpose of an H&I meeting is to carry the NA message of recovery to addicts
who do not have full access to regular Narcotics Anonymous meetings. H&I meetings/presentations,
except for those in longer term facilities, are intended to simply introduce those attending to
some of the basics of the NA program. |

| Outreach |
| The Maine Area Outreach committee's purpose is to support isolated
groups on behalf of the Maine Area. Our fellowship development efforts are focused on providing
supportive services to Narcotics Anonymous groups in need. Often an isolated group will reach out to the Maine Area
for help. The Outreach Committee regularly travels to groups who have asked for our support. The Outreach Committee
is a point of communication, welcoming isolated groups and informing them of the support available from the Maine
Area of Narcotics Anonymous. Often a simple introduction to what the Maine Area is, how to participate, and what to
expect at a Maine Area Service Committee meeting is sufficient to empower an isolated group with access
to the resources available in the fellowship. |

| Phone Line |
| The Maine Area hotline provides direct access to
our members for addicts seeking help. The purpose of the Phone Line committee is to
maintain the hotline and respond to messages left with the phone service. |
| Public Information |
| The purpose of public information work in Narcotics Anonymous is to
inform the public that NA exists and offers recovery from the disease of addiction.
A public information committee helps to ensure that accurate information about our fellowship
is available to the public. The Maine Area Public Information (PI) Committee
has been given the responsibility of public relations efforts for the Maine Area and
publishing meeting lists twice a year. |

| Miracle & Unity Fest |
| There are two major events sponsored by the MASCNA each year.
The Miracle and Winter Unity Fest. The planning and organization of these events is done by a committee. Each event
has its own committee and these events are planned and organized by volunteers throughout each year. |
| Website |
| The maine area website is designed to be a resource for
NA members, addicts seeking recovery, and the general public. Its content is the responsibility of the
MASCNA and is not meant to represent any particular group or NA as a whole. The website is updated
and maintained by a volunteer NA member under the direction of the MASCNA. |

| Area Inventory |
| The First Concept of NA service says, "To fulfill our fellowship's primary
purpose, the NA groups have joined together to create a structure which develops, coordinates and maintains
services on behalf of NA as whole." The purpose of the Maine Area Inventory Planning Committee is to assess how well
the Maine Area Service Committee of NA (MASCNA) is making our message of recovery available and accessible to
everyone in our community, and to make recommendations to MASCNA wherever possible to meet this end. Area inventory is
done every two years by an ad-hoc committee which will be dissolved at the end of the project. |
